The First Symposium in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
The 1st Symposium on Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was successfully held on November 5–6, 2021, via Zoom online meeting, in response to the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Organized by the Cambodian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and University of Puthisastra in Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia, this virtual event marked a significant step in advancing oral and maxillofacial surgery education and collaboration during challenging times.
The symposium primarily focused on minor surgical procedures, including dentoalveolar surgery and dental implantology, addressing fundamental yet critical aspects of the specialty. The program featured presentations and discussions led by distinguished local and international speakers, providing participants with practical insights and updates on these surgical domains.
Despite being conducted in a virtual format, the symposium facilitated meaningful interactions among professionals, fostering knowledge-sharing and networking opportunities. This event underscored the resilience and adaptability of the oral and maxillofacial surgery community, ensuring the continuity of education and professional development during the global pandemic.
The Second Symposium in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
The Second Symposium on Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was held on October 25-26, 2022, at the prestigious Hyatt Regency Hotel in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This significant event brought together professionals, trainees, and academics from the oral and maxillofacial surgery community to exchange knowledge and discuss advancements in the field.
The symposium featured keynote speakers from both local and international backgrounds, who shared their expertise on a wide range of topics, including dentoalveolar surgery, maxillofacial trauma, reconstructive surgery, and emerging surgical techniques. These presentations highlighted the latest research, innovations, and best practices in oral and maxillofacial surgery, enriching the attendees’ understanding and fostering professional growth.
A notable extension of the symposium was a hands-on workshop conducted on the second day, October 26, 2022. Participants had the opportunity to engage in practical training on dental implants, maxillomandibular fixation (MMF) techniques, and other dentoalveolar surgical procedures. This interactive session provided invaluable experiential learning, reinforcing surgical skills and bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application.
The Second Symposium further emphasized the commitment of Cambodia’s oral and maxillofacial surgery community to excellence in education and clinical practice, serving as a platform for meaningful collaboration and the advancement of the specialty. First Jointed confference of Cambodian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Implant Society of Cambodia
The 3rd Symposium on Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was successfully held in collaboration with the Dental Implant Society of Cambodia (DISC) at the Sun and Moon Hotel, Phnom Penh, on June 13–14, 2024. This landmark event marked the first joint effort between the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery community and DISC, reflecting a strengthened partnership for advancing dental and surgical knowledge.
The symposium attracted an impressive 300 participants, including professionals, trainees, and academics from Cambodia and abroad. Distinguished speakers from both Cambodian and international backgrounds delivered insightful presentations, covering a broad spectrum of topics in oral and maxillofacial surgery and dental implantology. These sessions showcased cutting-edge research, innovative techniques, and best practices, providing attendees with a well-rounded and enriching learning experience.
The collaborative nature of this event not only highlighted the synergy between the two professional communities but also reinforced their shared commitment to excellence in education, clinical practice, and patient care.
